Samsung pitcher Buchanan earned his 10th win of the season against Doosan in Jamsil on Sept. 9.
Samsung pitcher Buchanan pitched eight innings of one-run ball to reach 10 wins for the fourth consecutive season.
Buchanan struck out the next batter, Yang Ji Woo, on a fly ball to right field, but gave up a single to right field to Kang Seung-ho. Buchanan then struck out Cho and Heo Kyung-min to prevent further damage.
After another triple in the bottom of the third, Buchanan gave up back-to-back singles to Yang Seok-hwan and Kim Jae-hwan in the top of the fourth. With runners on first and second and nobody out, Buchanan struck out Yang on a swinging strikeout to end the inning. He then walked Kang Seung-ho and Cho Su-dong to end the fifth inning and earn his 10th win of the season.
In the middle of the game, Buchanan’s pitching stabilized. She retired back-to-back batters in the bottom of the sixth and seventh innings. Buchanan also took the mound in the bottom of the eighth. Buchanan gave up a leadoff single to Jung Soo-bin in the bottom of the eighth, but got Park Kye-beom and Kim In-tae to pop out and ground out to first base, respectively, to end the inning.
After Samsung drove in two runs in the top of the eighth to put the game out of reach, Lee Seung-hyun and Oh Seung-hwan took the mound in the bottom of the ninth to close out the game.
Buchanan became the 31st player in KBO history to reach the 10-win plateau in four consecutive seasons. After the game, Buchanan said, “It feels good. I’m glad the team won and I’m glad we got to 10 wins. Actually, today was my family’s departure day, so I had to see them off at Incheon Airport. So it was a little bit sad, but I’m glad we got the win.”
Buchanan continued, “I know how hard it is to get one win. You can’t do it all by yourself. You need your teammates to put up runs, you need your defense, you need your bullpen to shut them down. That makes it even more meaningful. I also want to thank the fans for chanting my name when I came down the mound. It was a day game today, so it must have been very hot in the dugout, but they were very enthusiastic and that gave me a lot of energy.”
