‘Elbow injury→lateral oblique injury’ Ohtani out of starting lineup for 4th straight game…manager “could return in 1-2 days”

Los Angeles Angels RHP Shohei Ohtani (29) has been removed from the starting lineup for the fourth straight game.

“Ohtani was injured in a swing during batting practice on the past five days and is still experiencing discomfort in his right oblique muscle,” MLB.com reported on Aug. 8. He has been out of the starting lineup for four straight games because of the injury.”소닉카지노

Ohtani, who was in the starting lineup against Baltimore on May 5, was removed from the lineup with the injury and has been out of the lineup ever since. “Tests prior to the July 7 game in Baltimore revealed a mild inflammation, not a sprain,” MLB.com explained.

In 135 games this season, Ohtani is batting .497 (151-for-497) with 44 homers, 95 RBIs and a 1.066 OPS, and in 23 games (132 innings), he is 10-5 with a 3.14 ERA. His elbow injury has kept him from pitching, but he is already a favorite to win his second American League MVP award since 2021.

The good news for Ohtani and the Angels is that the oblique injury is minor. However, Ohtani was not in the starting lineup against Cleveland on Aug. 8. Ohtani took swings in the batting cage and did some on-field drills before the game, but manager Phil Nevin said he is being cautious because he doesn’t want Ohtani to miss the rest of the season with the oblique injury.

“We’ll see how he is tomorrow,” Nevin said. “He moved well and his swing was almost up. But not enough to play today. I don’t feel comfortable with him taking a full swing. I think he’ll be back in the lineup in a game or two.”

There was speculation that Ohtani would need Tommy John surgery (elbow ligament splicing) due to damaged elbow ligaments. However, Ohtani’s agent, Nez Valero, said that while Ohtani will most likely need surgery, it may not be a second Tommy John surgery.

With the elbow injury, Ohtani has continued to play as a hitter. Nevin said Ohtani has asked to be in the lineup every game, even after the injury.

“I think that shows you the kind of player he is, and for the record, he really wants to play right now. He’s upset that he’s not playing. He wants to play. If he starts something, he wants to see it through to the end. He wants to get out on the field, but sometimes there can be tricky issues. So we have to do more checks,” he said.
